The first human clinical trial involving the use of Hoodia gordonii
was conducted by Phytopharm Pharmaceutical. In this landmark scientific study a group
of morbidly obese men and women was chosen from Leicester, England, and confined to a
"phase 1 unit" akin to prison. All the volunteers could do was read, watch television-and
eat. Half the group were given Hoodia gordonii and half were given a placebo. At
the end of 15 days, the group on the Hoodia gordonii had reduced their food intake
by 1000 calories a day-and, suffered NO Hoodia side effects. Given that
the average daily diet is around 2200 calories, the data obtained clearly showed the study
to be a stunning success!
Comparing the Hoodia gordonii group to the Placebo group:
- The Hoodia gordonii group had a statistically significant reduction in body fat. The the Placebo group did NOT!
- The Hoodia gordonii group had a statistically significant reduction in caloric intake. The the Placebo group did NOT!
- The Hoodia gordonii group had no adverse Hoodia side effects. The the Placebo group also did NOT have any ill side effects!
On average the Hoodia gordonii group ate about 1,000 calories a day less
than those in the Placebo control group. To put that in perspective, the
average American man consumes about 2,600 calories a day; a woman about 1,900.
At the end of the day the average man will have consumed 1,600 calories, and the
average woman 600 calories. Needless to say, taken consistently both men and
women who take Hoodia gordonii on a daily basis suffer NO Hoodia
